Treating cold sores
In most cases, cold sores heal fairly quickly if you use an antiviral cream. It is important that you use these creams as soon as you notice symptoms of the cold sore developing. If you have severe cold sores or a suppressed immune system, you may need more intensive treatment and you should arrange to see your doctor.
Often children may suffer additional symptoms when they are infected for the first time; if they have a fever and are nauseous and achy, take them to see a doctor. If you have a cold sore, make sure you drink plenty of water, apply creams when you first notice signs of a cold sore and avoid touching the sore.
Dealing with cold sores
Cold sores can be unsightly and you may be tempted to try and cover them up with make-up. This is perfectly understandable but it will probably slow healing down and it may irritate the sore, making it more painful.
Tips for preventing cold sores
It is not possible to prevent cold sores but if you do have a cold sore, try not to touch the sore, avoid touching other people's lips and kissing and always wash your hands before and after you apply the cream to your cold sore. When you have a cold sore try to avoid sharing drinks, creams and cutlery with others, as this can spread the infection.
Once the cold sore is sorted, feel positive
Cold sores spoil a smile because they distract from the pearly whites. If you are also self-conscious about your smile, regardless of cold sores, try looking into obtaining a smile makeover.
